Winning an international competition, Sublimation utilises an advanced consideration of natural dynamics. In symbiotic harmony with the environment, it responds dynamically to atmospheric shifts through its form and materiality. Located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, Sublimation was a temporary structure for the winter season.
The pavilion stands as a beacon in nature, transcending its surroundings. A single structural pole supports a pleated nylon mesh that leads to a single vanishing point, masking its scale. As snow falls, gusts blow, and temperatures fluctuate, the pavilion adapts dynamically. Translucent walls gradually freeze over and set in new forms, offering shelter when tempreatures drop.
With the arrival of spring, as the ice melts, the fabric dances with the wind, while cast shadows accentuate the pleated form. These dynamic responses to climate create a unique experience with each visit.
